We asked all 50 candidates running for Greater Sudbury city council seats whether they reside in the ward they are running in, and received responses from 43 of them

The majority of candidates seeking city council positions reside in the wards they are running in, while the balance who got back to Sudbury.com cited reasons for the ward seat they’ve chosen.

Of these candidates, 35 said that they reside in the ward they are running for, nine said they do not and the seven-candidate balance did not respond. Ward 12

  • Ron Goswell: Yes

    • “Absolutely, I live in this ward on Cardinal Court, where I've lived for 44 years and raised my family,” he said. “I feel very strongly that the only way you can possibly know the pulse of your people is by being in the ward, similar to an MP in his or her own riding.”

  • Jeff MacIntyre: No

    • “I do live downtown, one of the neighborhoods that makes up Ward 12, and I work there, too. Unfortunately, the reality of ward lines is that they cut through the middle of neighbourhoods. While I may live in Ward 10, I spend a lot of time in Ward 12 through friends and the businesses I frequent, and I feel strong ties to the area.”

  • Linnet Rimmer: Yes.

    • For just shy of five years. “While residency alone does not determine someone's ability to be an effective councillor, firsthand experience and a strong connection to the ward do provide valuable perspective,” Rimmer said. She is raising her young family of six children in the ward, so has “a genuine personal stake in its future.”

  • Matteo Raso: No response
