GREATER SUDBURY — If Greater Sudbury were a private-sector corporation spending approximately $859 million a year, no shareholder would consider its board of directors an honorary committee or a collection of complaint desks.

They would expect directors capable of reading financial statements, questioning management, evaluating major investments, understanding risk and making decisions that protect the long-term interests of the organization.

Ward 12 candidate Ron Goswell says Greater Sudbury residents should expect exactly the same seriousness from their City Council.

“The City’s own budget describes the municipal budget as its business plan,” Goswell said. “This is an organization responsible for approximately $859 million in annual expenditures, a large professional workforce, billions of dollars in public infrastructure and services that affect every household and business in Greater Sudbury.”
