Ward 12 candidates make their pitches in the Flour Mill
Updated: Oct 25

Four of five Ward 12 candidates attended an Oct. 1 all-candidates event for the ward, during which those who gathered learned that absentee candidate Colin McKerral had died
An all-candidates event for those running in Ward 12 began with a sad note on Oct. 1, with Flour Mill Community Action Network chair Claude Charbonneau announcing the death of Colin McKerral.
The Ward 12 candidate died at the age of 51 on Sept. 28, and is perhaps best known as an outspoken advocate for residents of the Louis Street subsidized housing community.
Shock resonated through the area residents who gathered for the meeting at Claude Charbonneau Park, at which Charbonneau (the park’s namesake) kicked things off with a moment of silence for McKerral.
The deadline for candidates to withdraw from the Oct. 26 civic election was Aug. 21, meaning McKerral’s name will still appear on the ballot.
The four-candidate balance within the five-way race for Ward 12 includes Matteo Raso, Jeff MacIntyre, Ron Goswell and Linnet Rimmer.
